hey hi hello i dont want to sound stupid or anything i took a tiny two year break from simming and i decided to check ur tumblr bc fav creator and yes wHEN DID U START CREATING AGAIN OMG
jfdkdjfkhgf you don’t sound stupid at all omg. and thank you!! that is rly nice of you to say. i’m super flattered that you like my stuff! :D
but yeah idk! in general i don’t share a lot cuz most stuff that i do make anymore is totally unusable outside my own game (99% of the time it’s just some nitpicky tiny edit of existing cc that no one else would want like wow pooklet you changed the hue of that by like +4 in photoshop and then imported it right back into the same package file, you star you) but if i think it’s something useful or it’s stood the test of time in my game then i don’t see any reason not to share stuff.
i’m just not hardcore enough to like intentionally aim to share stuff? if that makes sense? cuz then it’s this whole stressful process of quality control and trying to make everything useful to other ppl and when confronted with stress my primary defense mechanism is to take a nap.
I still love that gos aesthetic ;-; and yours and Azaya's love story is basically my favorite I hope you two live happily ever after
Oh yeah I def love it! Bosie, Belly and Bluebottle were/are major decorating inspirations for me. It was just a totally obvious attempted imitation when I did it back then, lol.
We’re my favorite love story, too, anon! (A close second is the love story that we wrote together that made us realize that we wanted all the same things out of a relationship. We spent so much time talking about love and then fell right in it and that is just the absolute coolest thing to me.) I’m so lucky I get to be married to my best friend in the whole world. I really hope we live happily ever after, too.
First of all, I'm sorry to bother you, Pooklet. I have noticed your box account was taken down when I wanted to redownload the hairstyles I have from you (because I'm dumb and deleted all TNT-files while tidying out my DL-folder thinking TNT was HMX - no comment). Then I read SimSecret and thought that the second one might be yours... I could be totally wrong, but I want to tell you that I really love your creations and am still using them!
Oh heck, the box is down? Well, that was inevitable but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon. Uh, give me a little bit and I’ll try to get everything into a dropbox account or something! I’m a pretty woozy and useless atm but I promise that’ll be my weekend project.
Also no, I didn’t submit any secrets! I haven’t made any secrets in like four years, I’m too lazy. But yeah I still see ppl using my stuff and def get excited. But even if they didn’t I wouldn’t be upset cuz that generally means they’re using better CC that I can also covet, lol. But I hope secret maker feels better all the same. I’m sure their stuff is gr8 and ppl do use it! It’s impossible to see every blog/website so maybe they’re just not looking in the right places idk.
anyway i will make a post when the old files are stored … wherever the hell they end up.
edit: ok so i cannot get to the files at all and my name isn’t on the billing account, it’s all w/ azaya so i don’t think i can contact support myself. but shes dealing w/ some really intense family stuff rn. so if anyone has any of the files readily avaiilable i’ll take them in the interim but yeah it may be a while before stuff is back in order, sorry
I can dig around on my backup drive for more. I think I have a couple others! But the ones I posted are pretty old, actually, and lately I have been making hair for my game in a way that literally everyone but me and Azaya would find completely annoying and unusable (I started binning my neons in the natural categories cuz I’m sick of my custom bin being a hilarious mess and also I am not opposed to kids being born w/ like neon green hair straight out of the womb).
Sooo yeah. Any new hair would be utterly useless to the community at large but I might still have some old ones worth posting!
Hey! I just wanted to ask a quick question about theft. I sometimes make lip 'blends' i'm really proud of by loosely tracing the shades/highlights of several lips at once and then compounding several of these traces, and handpainting them to make them look like one set of lips with the mean colors... Would I need permission/credits for the textures i used to make the lips, or since they're handpainted in the end does it really not matter? The traces are just a rough map of shades and highlights.
I try to err on the side of caution and credit as much as possible, even just for ideas and inspiration (like, I’m still not sure if I actually used parts of Helga’s hair texture in v3 or just looked at it a bit in photoshop but I credit Helga all the same). So I would, if for no other reason than that way people downloading your stuff would also have the option of downloading the original parts that you referenced if they liked them on their own, too.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think it makes the blends any less yours by giving credit to others for reference and inspiration. And I think they’d be really happy to know how they inspired you. Personally, I’m always thrilled to see how people have used my stuff to make newer (and better) content of their own. :)
As a Norweigan, my hearts bleeds whenever I see something Marvel's Thor related. I don't know why anyone thought it was a goo idea to turn my forefathers gods into a superhero, but at the same time I realize that someone did this because they thought "oh hey, this old norse god thing is hella cool!" What I mean is that not everything in this world is done out of spite; sometimes people just have a different way of showing their appreciation. :)
Anon, I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not. But acting on the good faith that you are not: a fundamental aspect of appreciating another culture is that culture’s consent. You can’t appreciate someone in ways that they don’t consider appreciation, you know? Like, I don’t get to bust into your house and express my “appreciation” for your sense of decor by stealing everything that isn’t nailed down. You don’t get to decide for someone else the best way to appreciate them, they do.
I. I really don’t understand why y’all are still sending me messages about this. It’s been two weeks. We’ve all said our respective piece already. At this point, I think it’s safe to assume that no one is going to be changing hearts and minds that haven’t already been changed.
I wish you had given the poor girl a chance to explain her intentions before singling her out publicly... A private message would've been nice? Maybe a kind ask for her to take down the CC request? I dunno, I know you tried to be nice, but you seemed overly angry at her ignorance, which couldn't be helped... I get it's an important item & I agree we shouldn't mess with it. I really do. But your approach was poor & less than favorable. )':
I’ve been ignoring a lot of the anon messages I’ve been getting about this because there’s no reason to keep harping on this matter (and most of them have just been straight up nasty and name-calling), but given that there seems to be some confusion, I guess I should reply publicly to at least one to clear up a few things.
As I explained before, I reblogged her post publicly to reach not only her but those that had liked and reblogged the post favorably, in case anyone was interested in or had already started fulfilling her request. I begged people not to fulfill the request, I said “please” repeatedly, I wasn’t angry and I did not expect people to reply with such vitriol or for the issue to get so huge. I only got angry when people continued to be willfully ignorant, and even then I wasn’t angry at the OP, just folks in the reblogs spewing misinformation.
Folks keep coming to me saying how I should have been kinder, that I should have approached the matter a different way but they have nothing to say regarding the fact that the image she posted was itself hurtful. People are quick to say that seeing an image like that causes no harm, but I beg to differ. If you want to come after me for not being kind enough when begging for some respect to be shown, I hope you’re equally as hard on the people who post images of hipster assholes misusing our cultural symbols in the first place.
I want to stress the fact that this isn’t a matter of my opinion. I and other Native people, when we ask that our symbols left alone, we are echoing the sentiments of our ancestors who have asked for the same. And I very sincerely hope that the people who keep saying that we are taking this matter too seriously are doing so from a position of being fully informed of the horrorsthat ourparents andgrandparentsexperienced.
The fact that we still have these traditions at all is honestly a miracle. For a very long time, and until very, very recently, it was the policy of our governments to try to erase all traces of our heritage, often through violent means. What we have left to us becomes all the more precious, especially in the wake of all that has been lost. So if someone claims to be informed on and care about the cultural issues effecting Native people, but knowingly posts images of our precious cultural symbols being mistreated, it kind of feels like a slap in the face and doesn’t exactly set the stage for a discourse that isn’t at least somewhat emotionally charged.
I’m very sorry that creaturefearsims felt the need to leave the community. I definitely empathize with feeling like you need to step back from stuff. I did speak to creaturefearsims privately and we agreed there were no hard feelings between us. So at this point, I really don’t know what to tell you, anon.
edit: nativeafua reblogged with a really great link I’d def recommend checking out, also!
You know, I’ve always been able to manage everything but the damn chocobo race. And, of the ones I’ve done, I find the stupid butterfly race thing the worst.
I actually freaking managed the Chocobo race for the first time in my life, but that’s only because I had quicksave on my side. But yeah, I agree the butterfly catching is the stuff of agony. This time around I just watched a tutorial and timed myself against it (with liberal use of quicksave) but on console it was pure rage-quit. Never have I been so angry at butterflies.
But as much as I hate the butterfly game I do admittedly love that it is necessary for Kimahri, of all people, to get his ultimate weapon.
I do, anon! It’s not hidden, per se (a little link-hopping will take you right to it), but in general I don’t offer it up here cuz I have found that keeping my personal life and thoughts somewhat removed from sims stuff is just a better system for me in terms of feeling comfortable in the sims community. A lot of my personal blog is venting about IRL stuff so I doubt anyone would want to read it anyway, lol.
Hey Pooklet! I actually stopped by to ask you if it was alright if I mixed Lilith's Remi Edit hair textures with your V2 textures, and used it to retexture some Sims 3 hairs? I didn't want to step on any toes if I intended up to upload it. I would, of course, give both you and Lilith credit! :>
Fine by me! All I did was edit other people’s textures so I can hardly fault anyone for wanting to further edit the resulting frankentexture. In general I don’t mind anyone editing my content in any way so long as it’s kept free. GO FORTH AND BE AWESOME.
hey individuals it’s time for my specialty, i.e., belated gifts insufficient for the occasion. i made you some sweaters
they are recolors of HystericalParoxysm’s ‘his sweater’ outfit, with pants texture by aikea-guinea (edited by oph3lia) and HP’s original sweater texture. the shoes are H&M with patterns i added, because that is what i do, i cram patterns into every single place they can possibly go because i am azaya, that’s why. the various patterns on sweaters and shoes have come from spoonflower, hello cavities, pooklet, chisimi, the sims 3 exchange, and fabric.com.
i recently upgraded from cs3 on and then promptly downgraded again because WOW do i hate the cs4 interface, with the awful tabs and images that fucking float outside the program when you try to disable awful tabs and how it keeps defaulting to saving pngs as copies and how i can no longer both create and edit an adjustment layer in a single step which makes actions really unnecessarily long.
to hell with that nonsense.
but i really liked the vibrance setting and went desperately hunting for a substitute that wasn’t just hue/saturation on low opacity and i think i found something passable!
it’s a plugin called selective saturation, it’s free, and you can get it here. you just pop it into your plugin folder and it’ll show up under the filter menu. i’m not sure how far back it works in terms of photoshop versions, but it’s definitely compatible with cs3 and i don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work with other creative suite versions. there are some examples of the tool in action on the website but here’s what the interface looks like:
(random image i grabbed from my pictures folder because of course i have a metric fucking ton of madohomu art)
you’re going to want to have smooth adjustment enabled, and just play with the settings. the mask preview option is also very useful because it shows you in solid flood-fill red all the parts of the image that are affected by the tool and which are left alone. with this enabled, you can more precisely adjust the sliders to ensure that only the parts of the image you want are saturated.
drawbacks? it doesn’t work like an adjustment layer, but instead will have to be applied to a flattened or stamped image. but i can live with that over the myriad annoyances of cs4 and beyond.
i hope this is useful to someone else! i was just really excited to find this because man i could write ballads, sonnets, rock operas and epic odyssian poems about my hatred for the cs4-cs6 interface.
p.s. the photo-plugins website has a lot of other useful plugins worth checking into, also this one from mehdi plugins looks rad and could also possibly be used to imitate vibrance!
in my tutorial i talked about using layer masks and gaussian blur to remove pixelation, especially on darker skintones. this is great for if you’re working with a smooth skin texture, but in cases where there is some intentional grain/texture to the skin, especially ones with freckles or that use any photoskinning, this method can cause a lot of detail loss.
a great alternative in this case is the noise reduction tool (under filter/noise). so you would use it the same way you do gaussian blur as per the tutorial, by stamping your work so far, applying the noise reduction tool (remember to play with the settings until you find the right balance), adding a layer mask and only filling in the sections of the face where there is pixelation you want to remove.
it accomplishes basically the same thing as gaussian blurring, but it’s more precise. the trade off is that it probably will not help much with very extreme pixelation. in that case, yr gonna have to stick to gaussian blur.
